Song of the Day

Lana Del Rey's debut album is out today, so I thought I'd have Born To Die as the song of the day. I quite like her. There, I've said it.

Can we just talk about these for a minute?

Pastel shades, embellishment and a wedding dress. Let's just take a moment to applaud Elie Saab for yet another amazing couture collection...

If you're not busy...

get yourselves to London to see Everything Is Electrified by artist, Joe Simpson. The exhibition takes the unlikely subject of pylons and follows Musician Portraits - previously featured on the blog here.

Speaking to Simpson in the run-up to the exhibition, the artist says:

"Whilst I was preparing for the musician portraits exhibition, I wanted to keep creating art, but to do something quite different as a creative break. I wanted to make paintings that I could do with minimal source material and that wouldn’t rely on sitters. I’ve always been interested in bold skies and clouds and started to make landscapes. I wanted to contrast the sprawling natural shapes of the skies with straight, formal and rigid imagery – so started to draw pylons and transmission towers over the top.  I’ve always liked pylons and wires across the skyline, they feel quite cinematic – like they appear in a Spielberg movie."

PS. if you were wondering, the title of the exhibition comes from this song...

Electrified - Ben Sollee

Everything Is Electrified runs from January 20th – 30th, 2012 at Camden Town Unlimited everyday 12pm – 8pm.

Block party

Despite being in the midst of Winter, all I can think about is when it's sunny and warm enough to lose the knitwear, coats and tights. In the meantime, I'll settle for colour blocking - something to bring...well, colour to the cold and dreary days of this time of year.

Marks & Spencer's Limited Collection has some great colour blocking pieces, including...

Shorts - £27.50

Midi skirt - £38

Hooded mac - £65

Dress - £39.50

You can view the Limited Collection here

Song of the Day

I've been lucky enough to be involved in a couple of projects and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you guys once they're both set in stone. So in the meantime, here's my song of the day:

The Maccabees - Pelican

It's only one more day...

until Versace for H&M launches their Spring/ Summer collection 2012 online. The line features fruit prints, bright hues, topped off with gold accessories and is modelled here by Abbey Lee Kershaw.

The collection hits selected H&M stores in February.

Ponystep

I'm currently analysing the target readership for the magazine Ponystep for my media analysis class. One thing I love about this publication is the art direction, particularly the shoot, I Like Fast Cars, Fast Men & Fast Food. If you're particularly interested in photography and/or styling then I suggest picking up a copy for yourself. These photos of Nicola Roberts are taken from the current issue. I always thought she was the coolest member of Girls Aloud.

Mila Kunis for Dior

Mila Kunis has been named as the new face of the luxury French label, Dior. The 28 year old actress stars in the Spring/ Summer 2012 collection for the Miss Dior handbag line - shot by Mikael Jansson.

Dior's deputy general, Delphine Arnault tells Women's Wear Daily, "Mila Kunis is a very talented young actress; she embodies the true modern woman. Her performance in Black Swan was remarkable. She is very gifted."

Kunis herself added, "I find that Dior is an incredibly grounded house. I always thought what Dior does is so sophisticated, feminine and beautiful."

Do you think Mila Kunis makes for a good Dior girl?

24 Hour Catwalk

It's less than a week until 24 Hour Catwalk premieres in the US. The show, presented by Alexa Chung, is a competition in which 4 designers have 24 hours in order to create a 3-piece collection for the judges (who are Cynthia Rowley, Derek Blasberg and James LaForce, respectively.)

At the moment, there are no plans to air the show in the UK, but this may change depending on whether or not ratings are high in the US. Let's hope so.
